It is my great honor to
welcome you to the Eastern Africa Regional Model United Nations (EARMUN) is a
simulation of the United Nations General Assembly where young people at the age
of 15-30 from different backgrounds in Eastern African countries get an
opportunity to practice diplomacy, leadership and the workings of the United
Nations.
This year the
conference will be held in Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre –Dar
es Salaam and to be attended by about 300 youth from various countries in East
African Region (Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Burundi and Rwanda) also other
countries from other parts of Africa like South Africa, Malawi, Ethiopia and
Zimbabwe. The consultation will base on the theme: “Energy and Climate Change Post
2015 –Youth Envisioning towards
Sustainable Development”
It is the first time EARMUN has
been held in Dar es Salaam. I am sure every participant will enjoy Brest and
will have the opportunity to have a look at the infinite variety of coastal
landscapes Dar es Salaam has to offer.
I would like to take this
opportunity to thank all of our organizing committee members, the Sponsors and
partners for their support, help, and consistent effort to make this conference
a success. My thanks will also be for all of the Substantive committee members
for their diligent and untiring effort in reviewing the submissions and all the
applications for the participants and speakers. The experience and efforts of
those mentioned above are indeed a great contribution for the success of this
conference. I look forward to seeing you in Dar es salaam, Tanzania.
